FEATHERSTONE INJURIES

Batley Beaten By Weakened Side

Five thousand spectators saw a very interesting game between Featherstone Rovers and Batley, at Featherstone. Featherstone were minus three regular players whilst Batley had their best side available.

Batley led off with a doubtful try by Smith after what seemed offside play. Rees converted. Featherstone, who had Gill and Sidney Denton injured in the first twenty minutes, responded with a try by Wynard, who failed at goal.  Featherstone attacked strongly up to the interval, and Batley were fortunate to cross-over with a two points lead. Sidney Denton was badly injured, but pluckily continued.

THE BEST HALF-BACK.

 Fowler played beautiful football for Batley, and was the best half-back on view. Featherstone were continually on the attack in the second half, but Batley defended finely. A great kick by James Denton, however, made the score five points all.

Featherstone had nearly all the play in the second half, but the game was never brilliant. Wynard scored a try after a fine dribble. Denton failing at goal. Batley were hard pressed, but put up a stern fight. Considering their weak side Featherstone played wonderfully good football. Batley were soundly beaten in the pack, all the Featherstone six playing a great game. J. Denton kicked another penalty goal for Featherstone and Wynard scored a third try.
