NORTHERN’S DOWNFALL

The absence of Attley, injured at York meant a marked weakening in Bradford Northern's attack on the occasion of their home game against the smart Featherstone Rovers.  The forwards, though playing second fiddle, made a plucky fight, but they had not got adequate support from the men behind.

Williams and Kirkham, the Rovers half backs, were quick and resourceful, and continually plied their three-quarters with the ball.  On the Bradford side. Welling and McCarthy tackled safely, but the defence weakened, partly in consequence of minor injuries. Oliver, at full back, had an arduous task, which he generally carried out meritoriously.

Neither side developed passing of a high standard, but there were few individualistic runs to enliven a moderate game, notably one by Hyne, of Bradford who intercepted a pass and sprinted half the length of the field before being overhauled.
