Thrilling solo try by Billy Stott to beat Huddersfield in the last minute

In November, Percy Morris was sold to Halifax.  In January, Ernie Winter was sold to Hunslet.  In February, Matt Killingbeck was sold to Dewsbury.  The loss of these three star players plus an extensive injury list, and an outbreak of influenza, meant this was a season of real struggle. The loss of Morris was particularly troublesome, as there was no immediate replacement, and resulted in Rovers struggling for possession from the scrums.  Consequently Rovers languished at the very bottom of the league for most of the season, thankfully five wins and a draw in the last eleven games avoided this fate.  Once again first round defeats in both cup competitions, by Huddersfield and Batley, meant there was no boost to morale or finances.

 In a struggling side Billy Stott, moved into the centre after the sales of Winter and Killingbeck, was often picked out as the best player on either side by press reports.  Jim Denton topped the try and goal scoring, demonstrating his enduring quality. New signings Malpass, Plenderleith and Lockwood together with the Johnson jnr, Hayes, Darlison and Norbury offered hope for the future.  Financially it was a good year because of the transfer income.
