Thankfully star centre Jack Hirst settled his differences with the club just as the season started as his form was one of the few bright spots in a challenging season. Rovers league form was poor winning only 12 games and finishing near the bottom of the league. One highlight was victory over Huddersfield in March which meant Featherstone had now beaten every club in Yorkshire since their entry into the league. Defeats in the first round of both cup competitions added to a poor season.
The lack of a settled half back combination was one contributing factor with Joe Kirkham transferring to Hull KR in exchange for Jos McGlone and Jimmy Williams suffering injuries. Tommy Needham was signed from Castleford as a scrum half but the RFL ruled he been approached illegally and he was forced to return to Castleford. In the pack Barraclough, Clements, Wynard, Haigh, Higson and Hepworth ensured there were very few games in which the Rovers pack was dominated. In a difficult year Jack Hirst was one of the few attacking weapons possessed by Rovers and he dominated the try scoring. He was also unlucky not to be selected for the 1924 GB tour to Australia.
